Position Title: Utility Billing Accountant
Location: Southampton County Administration Building
Description: Generates and maintains utility billing records; Establishes new accounts in system; Provides information, answers questions, and responds to complaints; Researches information on accounts and related billing, payment, and meter reading activities; Initiates work orders in regards to connections/disconnections, high usage, or other meter problems; Assists the Public Utilities Director with other administrative activities including, but not limited to, payroll, coding of bills, ordering supplies, and budget preparation. Works closely with County Administration, the Finance Department, and Treasurer’s Office; Directly reports to the Public Utilities Director;
Special Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred; Experience performing general accounting/fiscal work preferred; Experience in local government and use of the Bright/AS400 System preferred; Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel and Word required; Possession of a valid driver’s license;
Starting Salary: Negotiable depending on qualifications - $43,616 to $55,611
